2009 NFL Schedule released with great games ahead

With just a week or so away from this year`s NFL draft, the annual NFL schedule was released today. I must admit, there is some very interesting games to be played and some grudge matches to be settled.

Those interesting games include the Denver Broncos against the New England Patriots on October 11th. This game will include New Bronco head coach Josh McDaniels against the team he helped run on offense as coordinator. You also have Tom Brady who he mentored playing against the Coach who guided him to all of those Super Bowls as coordinator.

The Dallas Cowboys lead all teams with 6 scheduled nationally televised games and this is despite releasing Terrell Owens, who is now with the Buffalo Bills. I guess this is your reward for not even making the playoffs.

The Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger play their bitter rival, the Baltimore Ravens two times in just 5 weeks. Those games are on November 29 and December 27th. Merry Christmas Baltimore.

Dallas will open up their new $1.1 billion stadium in a nationally televised Sunday night game versus the New York Giants on September 20th. The very first Monday night game has the New England Patriots in what will be Tom Brady`s return against the Buffalo Bills.

A very interesting game to behold. You have what could be a very agile Tom Brady and the king of smack in Terrell Owens making his Bills debut. All in all this should be a very interesting season, at least on paper for all NFL fans to enjoy! I must admit though, without Brett Favre it just doesn`t seem the same.

The Giants release troubled receiver Burress

The New York Giants released wide receiver and Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress, a little more than 4 months after the receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh in a New York City nightclub. This came as no surprise to most NFL fans, but even though his now former team mates had his blessing to come back, the Giants decided enough was enough.

Since that a game-winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl against the previously undefeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, Burress has fallen out of favor with the public and the Giants organization. He faces a felony weapons charge that could put him in the county blues for at least 3 and a half years if found guilty.

Burress snagged 344 passes with the Giants which puts him 12th on the franchise's career list, 1 catch ahead of Earnest Gray and 3 behind Aaron Thomas. Burress had 3,681 receiving yards and caught 33 touchdown passes for the Giants. There is no question about his on field talent, it`s just his off the field woes that is killing his career and his reputation.

Chicago lands unhappy Cutler from Denver

2008 NFL Denver Broncos Schedule

The Denver Broncos and quarterback Jay Cutler, finally divorced yesterday from each other after a rocky marriage. The gun-slinging quarterback from Vanderbilt, was traded to the Chicago Bears for quarterback Kyle Orton, two first round draft choices, and another third round pick. The Broncos also had to give back a fifth round pick in the draft along with Orton.

Cutler had asked to be traded when he found out Denver rookie coach Josh McDaniels tried to sign quarterback Matt Cassel in a trade with the New England Patriots. If you ask me, Cutler should suck it up and quit sulking. You can not have that in the locker room, let alone trying to win a game as a team on the gridiron.

Last season, Cutler threw for a Denver record 4,526 yards, 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. In his 37-game career in Denver, he completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 9,024 yards, 54 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. Unreal stats, but is he worth the baggage? Only time will tell, and hopefully not at Chicago`s expense.

T.O. to Buffalo

Just days after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth 6.5 million dollars. Owens who is now 35 years old, will team up opposite Lee Evans who has been an elite receiver for the Bills the past few years.

Owens recently stated that, "I must move on, and it's another beginning for me." He then added- "If I can be that extra added piece to get them to the playoffs, then that's what I'm here for. I looked at the defensive side of ball and offensive side of the ball, and these guys have all the pieces."

Owens caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns last season with the Cowboys. He is a 6 time Pro Bowler and is among the NFL's career leaders in catches, yards and touchdowns. In last 3 years, his 38 touchdowns are 1 more than New England`s Randy Moss. It has never been about his physical ability and skills, but his intense locker room and on field issues that shy teams away from keeping him.

Seattle signs offensive stud Houshmandzadeh

The Seattle Seahawks signed long time Cincinnati Bengal T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a 5-year contract worth about 40 million dollars. The 31-year old wide receiver caught 92 passes last year for 904 yards and 4 touchdowns. Seattle didn`t have a receiver to have at least 50 catches anywhere on offense.

Houshmandzadeh also tied for the league lead in 2007 with 112 receptions with New England`s Wes Welker. He was the one reliable player in what has been a disastrous last few years in Cincinnati, on and off the field. He will tremendously upgrade the offensive side of the ball and look to help the Seahawks rebound from a 4-12 season last year.

Kansas City gets Matt Cassel and Vrabel

The Kansas City Chiefs made a bold move acquiring quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel from the New England Patriots, in exchange for a second round draft pick. Tom Brady and his injured knee must be feeling just fine or they would have never let Cassel go.

Cassel had a wonderful year filling in for Brady that included a passer rating of 89.4, 21 touchdowns, and over 3500 yards in the air. Vrabel finished the year with 62 tackles and 4 sacks. Cassel will immediately help at this vital position that the Chiefs have not had in years. Combine that with new offensive minded coach Todd Haley, and the Chiefs don`t look so terrible any more.

But what looks great on paper, doesn`t translate success on the field. You still have to suit up every Sunday against the world`s greatest athletes. Ask the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo how well "paper champions" do!
