The Giants release troubled receiver Burress
The New York Giants released wide receiver and Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress, a little more than 4 months after the receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh in a New York City nightclub. This came as no surprise to most NFL fans, but even though his now former team mates had his blessing to come back, the Giants decided enough was enough.
Since that a game-winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl against the previously undefeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, Burress has fallen out of favor with the public and the Giants organization. He faces a felony weapons charge that could put him in the county blues for at least 3 and a half years if found guilty.
Burress snagged 344 passes with the Giants which puts him 12th on the franchise's career list, 1 catch ahead of Earnest Gray and 3 behind Aaron Thomas. Burress had 3,681 receiving yards and caught 33 touchdown passes for the Giants. There is no question about his on field talent, it`s just his off the field woes that is killing his career and his reputation.

This is why Pittsburgh traded him a few years back.
