In a close game, they defeated the number 1 Alabama Crimson Tide 30-21, in front of a record sellout of 75,892 at the Georgia Dome. It was the first time that a #1 and a #2 met in the SEC Championship game.

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow got the scoring started with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Carl Moore after Florida stopped Alabama on downs to open up. Alabama came roaring back. Quarterback John Parker Wilson hooked up with freshman Julio Jones on a 64 yard pass. That set up running back Glenn Coffee`s 18-yard run for a Crimson Tide touchdown. The two teams would exchange field goals and Tebow would put the Gators up 17-10 before half with a 5-yard pass to David Nelson.

Florida trailed 20-17 in the last quarter, when Jeffrey Demps 1-yard run made it 24-20 Florida. Tebow then sealed the win with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper to make the score 31-20 Gators. This showed that Florida can win a tight game and that Tim Tebow can make throws and bowl over defenders when needed. Tebow finished the game 14-22 for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns. He had 17 carries for 57 yards. He should win a second consecutive Heisman Trophy after this performance in my opinion. From cheering on the kickoff unit to doing what it takes to win, Tebow is the best !`ve seen at this position in quiet sometime!
