Cowboys owner says Phillips will be back…
According to the horses mouth, Wade Phillips will be back as coach of the Dallas Cowboys next season. Jason Garrett will remain head of the offense, whether or not the team makes the playoffs, owner Jerry Jones said today. Garrett received a hefty raise to stay with the Cowboys in the off-season, so it would seem stupid to fire him after one season.
"The coaches are in place. I've said that. How can I be any clearer?" Jones said. I'm saying that when I look at where we are coaching staff-wise and when I look at where we are personnel wise, I see a team that is in place to compete for several years." This is what Jones told reporters Friday in Irving, Texas. He also mentioned that he would like to go into a new stadium with a Super Bowl ring.
Phillips has dealt with speculation that if Dallas does not make the playoffs that he may be available to the coaching industry. Phillips has dealt with the likes of Adam Jones and his extra baggage of suspensions this season. Terrell Owens and his tantrums of "I need the football", and Tony Romo has missed some huge games due to a broken pinkie. That`s just a few things.
Those issues were key and Dallas could have folded but they didn`t. They kept fighting through everything because that`s what champions do. They win, they don`t make excuses. Phillips has done the best he possibly can with what he has had, and at least they are in position to make the playoffs with a win against the Eagles on Sunday.
