Oakland Raiders fire Lane Kiffin
Just days after the ST. Louis Rams fired coach Scott Linehan and replaced him with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, the Oakland Raiders and owner Al Davis duplicated things by firing head coach Lane Kiffin. The longtime Raider owner accused Kiffin of lying to the press about never talking to him after the Denver Bronco game to making terrible decisions on and off the field. As Davis read the letter he sent to Kiffin, he stated that many things Kiffin did just did not sit well with him.
A few things Davis mentioned was that Kiffin let players go that was with the organization for 8 to 9 years. Also Davis said that Kiffin never wanted to draft starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell who he says has a great future ahead of him. Davis also admitted that he felt Kiffin conned him just like he conned the press by saying he never spoke to the Oakland Raider owner. While Davis said that Kiffin was a professional liar, he said he made a mistake by hiring the wrong guy.
Kiffin talked to sportscenter later in the day and said that Al Davis was only giving one side of the story. Davis came back later after a brief break and said that offensive line coach Tom Cable would be the interim coach for the rest of the year. This will be the Raiders 5th coach in seven years.
