One year after Clemson signed coach Tommy Bowden to a contract extension through 2014, Bowden and Clemson athletics director Terry Don Collins agreed it was best for the program that they go separate ways. Bowden who was expected to win his division this year in the ACC, lost Saturday to Wake Forest to drop his Clemson team to 3-3 overall. In his career, Bowden finished with a record of 72-45 after coming from Tulane  having a record of 11-0 in 1998. After losing to Alabama by 24, they also lost at home to Maryland, and finally to Wake Forest, Tiger nation was sick of being mediocre in the acc in their eyes.

Bowden never won an acc title at Clemson, but took the Tigers to 8 bowl games and always had a winning record in the acc. Anything less is unacceptable at Clemson when it comes to football. It has been 17 years since the Clemson Tigers have won an acc title, and with players like James Davis , and C.J. Spiller, you are expected to win and win big. Cullen Harper who was benched after the Wake Forest game, said that Bowden got what he deserved. Other players said he was saying they needed to step up and be leaders, but Bowden was just repeating himself over and over. Assistant Dabo Swinney will take over for the rest of the season.
